Our Cosmetic Standard

Top Notch Woods Cosmetic Standards & Terms Agreement:

At Top Notch Woods, we take great pride in each and every unique piece of furniture we sell. Our furniture is handcrafted and professionally finished by our team and built using solid wood. Given the handmade and hand-finished nature of the products we craft, variations and imperfections in the wood should be expected and celebrated! Just as every tree is unique, so too is every piece of furniture that is handcrafted and hand finished just for you. 
 
Please read through our cosmetic standards below before placing an order with us. 
 
By placing an order with us and paying a deposit of any kind, you are agreeing to and acknowledging that you understand the conditions of these cosmetic standards 

WOOD & STAIN VARIATIONS: 
● Every piece of wood is unique and slight color variations and grain patterns should be expected. We cannot guarantee exact stain matches to other tables we've done in the past. Every piece of wood accepts stain differently. We will use the correct stain or paint color that you requested for your order, but the result may vary slightly from the table or picture you were thinking of when you placed the order. This is normal. We cannot rework the finishing on your table to get a perfect match.  
 
MATCHING STAIN COLORS: 
● We do NOT match stain colors off of photos. If you wish to use a custom stain, you must provide the stain, and specify the wood type you prefer. We will do what you've asked, however - we cannot rework staining that did not come out exactly as you had in mind because all wood types and grains receive stains differently.  
 
SANDING & STAIN COLORS: 
● The finer finish you choose, the lighter your stain color will be, as less stain is absorbed when the pores of the wood are closed. Distressed finishes will absorb more stain resulting in a darker stain color. The more that your table is distressed, the darker your stain will be. Please be aware and take note that the finish on a finely sanded table will differ from a finish on a distressed table.

ROUGH SAWN: 
● Please note that if you are ordering a rough sawn top, there will be small waves in your table. Also, there may be spots where saw marks are not present as it is a unique and inconsistent option. Saw marks give it character, and there are unique challenges with working with it. If you are looking for a perfectly smooth/flat top, you will want to go with the standard smooth top option 
 
GENERAL VARIATIONS IN FURNITURE: 
● Other characteristics of handcrafted, solid wood furniture include open knots, visible brush strokes, micro-imperfections and textural variations in the durable, hand brushed finishes, unique distress marks, exposed screws, wood filler marks, joint lines, and distinctive nicks, splits, cracks, and other imperfections. We allow up to approximately 1" of variation across all measurements due to the custom nature of the handcrafted furniture we build. 
If you are looking for perfection, we recommend not purchasing a handcrafted table

 
WOOD MOVEMENT: 
● Solid wood may expand and contract due to changes in temperature and humidity. This means that the gaps between the boards of a traditional table top may widen or shrink over time. This is natural movement and It does not affect structural integrity nor is it considered defective.

OPEN KNOTS:  
● Open knots are a beautiful feature of solid wood, adding to its uniqueness. Unless specified in the invoice, we do not fill these knots. They remain visible and untreated, celebrating the natural qualities of the wood. 

STANDARD DINING CHAIRS: 
● Please note, our standard dining chairs are handcrafted from parawood. They stain very similar to your table, have the same tones and compliment it well, however the color will NOT be an exact match. Specific hardwood chairs should be requested and specified in the invoice.

LEAD TIMES: 
● With many orders in our queue at any given time, lead times are PURELY ESTIMATES. The lead time that we have given you is our best guess at when you will get your table. We cannot guarantee a specific delivery date. Please know this if you're placing an order with us in hopes of getting it for a special occasion such as a party, birthday, holiday, etc... We will always do our best to accommodate, but we cannot guarantee anything in terms of delivery date. Please understand this before placing an order with us.  

 

Down Payment & Cancellation Policy

DOWN PAYMENT: 
● A 50% down payment is required to secure your order and add your project to our production queue. The remaining balance will be due upon completion before delivery.

CANCELLATION POLICY: 
● If you cancel your order within 7 days of placing the deposit, 80% of the deposit will be 
refunded. 
● If you cancel after 7 days, the deposit is non-refundable as materials will have already been ordered, and we will have reserved time and resources specifically for your project. 
● Should you make a major design change after production has started, you will be responsible for covering the cost of both the original and additional materials required for the changes.
